Lot 876: UK HMS Powerful White Metal Commemorative Medal Barrow-in-Furness 1895
A UK white metal commemorative medal marking the launch of the cruiser HMS Powerful. The obverse features a starboard profile of the ship with the legend H.M.S. POWERFUL along the upper-left edge and G. C. TEETGEN CHAIRMAN to the right. The reverse bears a seven-line inscription: BUILT BY THE N. S. & A. CO BARROW-IN-FURNESS LAUNCHED JULY 24 1895. The N. S. & A. Co refers to the Naval Construction and Armaments Company. The medal is struck in a grey-toned white metal alloy.
Condition report:
Good. The piece shows significant wear with heavy surface pitting and oxidation. Details on the ship and lettering are partially obscured. A hole has been drilled at the edge at approximately the 9 o\'clock position.
