This collection of early 20th-century printed postcards features various humorous and illustrative subjects, each customised for the Cumbrian locations of Kirkby-in-Furness and Broughton-in-Furness. The group includes an anthropomorphic turnip with a human face and red handbag inscribed Hope you will turn=up at Kirkby=in=Furness; a figure beneath a large red umbrella inscribed In the shade at BROUGHTON-IN-FURNESS; a portrait of a woman with long hair inscribed I’m Looking out for You at Kirkby-in-Furness; and a caricature of a man with a large moustache, white collar, and red bowtie inscribed …u are feeling out of sorts the best of RESORTS is Kirkby-in-Furness. The location names appear to be overprinted or stamped in a different typeface from the main captions, indicating they were generic designs adapted for local sale. The cards are printed on card stock with a matte finish. No publisher marks or artist signatures are visible on the obverse.
Each approximately 140mm x 90mm.
