This collection consists of three monochrome photographic postcards dating from the early 20th century, primarily of local interest to the Furness district of Cumbria. The first card depicts Broughton-in-Furness Parish Church, showing the Gothic Revival architecture in a vertical format with the caption Broughton-in-Furness Parish Church printed along the left margin. The second item is a real photographic postcard (RPPC) featuring a group portrait of approximately twenty men in early 20th-century attire, including flat caps and waistcoats, posed inside an open-topped charabanc. Partial signage in the background includes the text J.A.C… MERCERS, and printed text at the lower edge reads …RS-ARMSTRONG, possibly referring to Vickers-Armstrongs. The third postcard illustrates a crowded scene in Walney Channel, showing numerous figures on a ferry with industrial chimneys prominent on the distant horizon. This card is captioned WALNEY CHANNEL at the bottom right.
Condition report:
The postcards exhibit typical signs of age, including yellowing and corner bumping. The Broughton-in-Furness card is in good condition with light toning and minor wear to the corners. The charabanc outing card is in good condition with minor surface marks and edge wear consistent with age. The Walney Channel card is in fair condition due to a significant triangular loss and tear at the bottom right corner affecting the final letters of the caption, along with general edge wear and light foxing.
