Lot 762: An English Weathered Teak Slatted Three-Seater Garden Bench
A traditional three-seater garden bench constructed from teak hardwood, which has weathered to a natural silver-grey patina. The design features a high back with twelve vertical splats and a seat composed of seven horizontal slats. The bench includes wide, shaped armrests supported by square-section legs, with mortise and tenon joinery used throughout the construction. While the form is consistent with mid-to-late 20th-century English designs such as those by R.A. Lister, no maker’s marks or stamps are visible. A small orange circular adhesive label is present on the right armrest.
Condition report:
The bench is in a heavily weathered condition consistent with prolonged outdoor exposure. There is significant silvering to the timber and visible dark staining, likely due to lichen or water marks, particularly across the seat slats. Fine surface checking and minor splits are present on the armrests and top rail, which are characteristic of aged outdoor teak furniture. The piece remains structurally sound.
