A mahogany fire screen of rectangular form, featuring an inset hand-embroidered textile panel. The needlework is designed in the Jacobean Revival taste, depicting a scrolling Tree of Life motif with large stylised flower heads, a central multi-lobed leaf, and various buds and tendrils. The embroidery is executed in a muted colour palette consisting of dusty pink, sage green, ochre, and cream on a light ground. The dark-stained hardwood frame is finished with simple straight-edged mouldings and is supported by twin out-swept trestle feet. No maker marks, labels, or inscriptions are visible on the front or the frame.
Condition report:
The embroidered panel is in generally good condition, displaying light and even toning to the cream background fabric consistent with its age. No major stains, holes, or significant thread loss are visible. The mahogany frame shows signs of age-related wear, including minor scuffs, nicks, and surface abrasions, particularly to the lower sections and the feet.
