Lot 368: A Pair of Circular Neoclassical Stipple Engravings of Cherubic Heads

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A pair of circular stipple engravings executed in blue ink on cream-toned paper. Each work depicts a classical study of a cherubic head with curly hair, shown in profile. The fine, dotted technique is characteristic of 18th-century stipple engraving, designed to mimic the appearance of chalk drawings. The subject matter and execution are in the style of neoclassical artists such as Francesco Bartolozzi or Angelica Kauffman. Each engraving is housed in a substantial, circular gilt wood frame featuring a deep, multi-tiered mount with gilded inner borders. No signatures, dates, or inscriptions are visible on the face of the works. The frames are fitted with modern auction lot labels.

Condition report:

Both prints appear to be in good condition, showing no visible signs of foxing, toning, or moisture damage under the glass. The gilt frames are in good overall condition with some minor surface wear, light scuffing, and small losses to the gilding consistent with age and handling.
