Lot 367: English School, late 19th or early 20th century, Floral Still Life with Primulas and Anemones
A horizontal format floral still life, likely oil on board, depicting a naturalistic arrangement of spring blossoms. The composition features pink primulas, white wood anemones, and yellow narcissi set against a dark, tonal background. The botanical details are rendered with soft highlights and blended brushwork. The work is unsigned and is presented behind glass in a wide, dark-stained wooden frame with tiered decorative mouldings and a gilt-finished inner slip. A small white lot sticker numbered 7 is attached to the glass, and orange auction labels are adhered to the lower edge of the frame.
Condition report:
The paint surface exhibits significant and widespread craquelure, particularly concentrated across the right-hand portion of the composition. There is accumulated surface dirt and dust trapped between the glass and the painting. The frame shows some minor surface wear and abrasions consistent with age.
