A trio of nineteenth-century steel engravings on paper, each depicting a topographical scene in the Scottish Highlands. The first engraving, titled Loch Long, from Glencroe, is after Thomas Allom (1804–1872) and was engraved by H. Richardson. The second, titled Glencroe, between Loch Long and Cairn Dhu, is also after Thomas Allom and engraved by H. Richardson. The third, titled Highland Pass, near the Gairloch, is after Clarkson Stanfield, R.A. (1793–1867) and was engraved by W. Richardson. Each work demonstrates the fine, precise line work associated with the steel engraving technique. Plate marks are partially visible beneath the surrounding mounts. The works are uniformly presented in dark-stained wood frames with cream-coloured mounts. One frame has an orange label numbered 354, and each frame is marked with a small white sticker numbered 2.
Condition report:
The prints exhibit age-appropriate toning to the paper and some areas of scattered foxing. The impressions remain sharp and clear. The frames appear to be in good condition with only minor surface wear and small scuffs consistent with age and handling.
