A 19th-century Southeast Asian spear, possibly Javanese or Madurese, comprising a forged steel head, decorative metal sleeve, and hardwood shaft. The long, slender blade features a narrow leaf-shaped or quadrangular profile and displays a dark, aged patina. It is secured to the shaft via a decorative white-metal sleeve, which is embellished with repoussé and chased foliate and scrollwork patterns. A decorative corded collar is situated at the junction between the blade and the sleeve. The dark hardwood shaft is of circular section with a polished finish. An illegible white inventory label is adhered to the upper portion of the shaft.
Condition report:
The weapon shows signs of age-appropriate wear. The steel head exhibits surface oxidation and a dark patina throughout. The decorative metal sleeve is well-preserved with clear details and some surface tarnish. The hardwood shaft appears sound with minor surface marks and no visible structural damage.
