Lot 118: A Trio of Decorative Chased and Engraved Brassware
A group of three decorative brass items comprising a large circular charger, a smaller plate with a scalloped edge, and a goblet. Each piece is decorated with intricate chased and engraved patterns. The charger features a meander or Greek key border to the outer rim, with the main field displaying dense scrolling foliate and floral motifs. The centre of the charger contains a lobed border enclosing an engraved scene of a figure amidst stylised vegetation. The secondary plate features a similar lobed design with floral chasing, while the goblet is decorated with matching scrolling patterns. This style of metalware is characteristic of Anglo-Indian or Middle Eastern production, such as Benares ware, from the early 20th century. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The items display a level of surface wear and tarnish consistent with age and use. A dark patina has formed within the recessed chased decoration. No significant dents, cracks, or structural damage are visible.
