Lot 71: A Collection of Cut Glass and Crystal Tableware including Royal Brierley
A large collection of mixed cut glass and lead crystal ware, featuring various decorative and functional items of primarily 20th-century British manufacture. The lot includes a large claret jug with an ornate silver-plated mount, featuring a scrolled handle, decorative spout, and hinged lid. There are several decanters and lidded jars, including a bulbous example with a multifaceted stopper and a jar with a star-cut base and faceted finial. The assortment of stemware and glassware comprises wine glasses, hock glasses, liqueur glasses, and tumblers. Many pieces exhibit traditional deep-cut patterns such as diamonds, fans, and starbursts. Notable inclusions are a suite of glasses with gilt rims and a pair of tumblers featuring etched grapevine motifs. At least two wine glasses bear original circular blue and silver labels for Royal Brierley, featuring a crown symbol. Other pieces exhibit similar high-quality cutting and clarity consistent with prominent British crystal manufacturers.
Condition report:
The items are generally in good, saleable condition. There are minor surface scratches and light \"flea bites\" consistent with age and domestic use. The metal mount on the claret jug shows surface tarnish and would benefit from cleaning. Some pieces may show light cloudiness from previous use.
