The basket features a hinged lid secured by a central brown leather fastening strap with a metal buckle. An orange paper tag inscribed with the number 497 is attached to the strap. Dark, weathered stencilling is visible across the top of the lid, though the specific characters are not clearly legible.

The item shows characteristic signs of age and use throughout. There is surface staining to the wickerwork and minor wear to the weave in several areas. The leather strap shows signs of age-related wear and the metal buckle exhibits a natural patina.
