Attributed to Liberty & Co., this 19th-century regional English country armchair is crafted in the Arts and Crafts style. The chair features a high back with a central, decoratively carved vertical splat incorporating a pierced circular wheel motif, flanked by three slender vertical spindles on each side, all set beneath a straight top rail. It has curved wooden arms resting on turned supports. The seat is constructed of woven rush in a traditional four-section pattern. The frame is supported on turned front legs and slightly tapered back legs, all joined by plain stretchers. The piece is crafted from a dark-stained hardwood, identified as likely oak or ash, and exhibits traditional joinery throughout. A small white adhesive inventory label is present on the front of the left armrest.
Condition report:
The chair is in good antique condition, showing wear consistent with age and historical use. There are visible surface scuffs and minor indentations to the wood finish, particularly on the arms and legs. The woven rush seat appears largely intact but shows signs of age-appropriate wear and minor fraying.
