This collection comprises three maritime oil paintings on canvas. Two of the works are by the British artist Dion Pears (1929-1985), depicting dynamic naval battle scenes. These paintings feature 18th-century style men-of-war engaged in combat; one work captures a vessel under full sail in choppy waters, while the other shows an engagement at sunset with visible fire and smoke. Both Dion Pears works are signed DION PEARS in red paint to the lower sections and are fitted with brass nameplates on the frames inscribed with the artist’s name. They are housed in matching moulded gilt-composite frames with dark-toned inner slips. The third painting is a harbour scene portraying sailing ships at anchor in calmer waters, presented in a more ornate, swept gilt-finish frame with floral scrollwork to the corners. All three works exhibit confident brushwork with textured impasto highlights applied to the waves and sky.
Condition report:
The paintings appear to be in good overall condition. There is a light layer of surface dust across the canvases. The frames show some minor wear, including light scuffs and small chips to the gilt finish consistent with age and handling. No significant paint loss, craquelure, or evidence of repair is visible on the canvas surfaces.
