Lot 299: Douglas Land (British, 20th Century), Keswick, Watercolour on Paper
A watercolour on paper by Douglas Land depicting an atmospheric mountainous landscape, identified by a vertical handwritten inscription reading KESWICK in the upper right corner. The work is executed in a traditional British topographical style, employing broad, fluid washes with a muted palette of browns, ochres, and purples. The piece is signed vertically in the lower right Douglas Land. The painting is presented in a dark brown mount with a thin gold-coloured inner fillet and is housed in a wide, ornate gilt composition frame with scrolled corners and swept edges. The paper appears slightly toned with some minor undulation visible, though no significant foxing or water damage is apparent through the glazing. The ornate gilt composition frame shows minor surface wear and small chips to the gilding, particularly at the extremities and corners.
