A trio of stylised cast metal figures, comprising two extremely elongated giraffe figures and a smaller figurative group depicting a rider mounted on a quadruped. The pieces are manufactured from cast brass or bronze, likely using the cire perdue (lost-wax) casting method. The figures are characterised by exaggerated proportions and a textured, pitted surface finish consistent with West African tribal art styles. Each giraffe features a long neck and legs with a decorative pattern of raised nodules on the torso. The smaller grouping represents a simplified human figure atop a four-legged animal. There are no visible maker’s marks or signatures. An orange adhesive sticker is present on one giraffe and a fragment of a white paper label is on the other.
Condition report:
The items display an aged, dark patina with visible green verdigris oxidation, particularly on the equestrian figure. The surfaces are deliberately irregular as part of the casting process. Minor surface grime and wear are present consistent with age. No structural breaks or repairs are observed.
