A Royal Crown Derby porcelain paperweight modelled in the form of a platypus, decorated in the traditional Imari palette. The figure features cobalt blue panels, iron-red floral motifs, and intricate gilded detailing throughout. The broad bill and flat tail are highlighted with burnished gold. The underside bears the red printed Royal Crown Derby backstamp with the date code LII, indicating the year of manufacture as 1989. It is fitted with the original gold-coloured metal stopper, embossed with the company name and emblem, denoting a first-quality piece. Small hand-painted decorator marks in purple and black are also present on the base.
Condition report:
The item is in very good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of restoration. There is some minor surface wear and darkening to the unglazed foot rim. An orange adhesive lot sticker numbered 210 is present on the side of the body.
