A fine bone china paperweight in the form of a tortoise, produced by Royal Crown Derby. The piece is decorated in the traditional Old Imari style with a palette of iron red and cobalt blue, embellished with extensive gilded highlights. The shell is divided into distinct panels featuring geometric patterns and stylised floral motifs. The legs and tail are finished with a red fish-scale design, while the head and neck are white with gold-painted details. The base features a red factory backstamp with a crown over crossed batons, identifying the maker as Royal Crown Derby, Made in England. To the right of the mark are the Roman numerals LIII, providing a date of manufacture of 1990. A hand-painted red decorator mark in the form of an E is also present. The underside is fitted with a silver-coloured metal stopper embossed with the manufacturer name.
Condition report:
