This is a photomechanical colour reproduction print after the 1922 watercolour titled Morning Light by the Australian artist Sir Hans Heysen (1877-1968). The work depicts a signature Australian landscape, featuring a prominent eucalyptus tree in the foreground and a herd of cattle gathered beneath its branches, set against a background diffused by soft, atmospheric morning light. The print includes a facsimile signature and date HANS HEYSEN 1922 in the lower right corner of the image. The margins contain printed text: Morning Light 1922, From the watercolour by Sir Hans Heysen, O.B.E. and SIR HANS HEYSEN, O.B.E. (AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL OF PAINTING). A copyright notice in the lower left margin reads COPYRIGHT: DAVID HEYSEN PRODUCTIONS, HAHNDORF, S.A. The print is currently mounted upside down within a wide beige-toned mount and a dark-stained wooden frame with a gilt inner slip.
Condition report:
The print exhibits significant condition issues, including widespread foxing and brown spotting throughout the image and margins, most notably visible in the lighter areas of the sky. There is overall paper toning and discolouration consistent with age and environmental exposure. The print is incorrectly oriented upside down within the mount. The frame and glazing appear to be in good, stable condition with minor surface wear.
