An oil on canvas painting dated 1973, depicting a nocturnal cityscape of London viewed from the River Thames. The composition centres on the illuminated Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) and the Houses of Parliament, rendered in yellow and ochre impasto against a dark, atmospheric background. To the right of the tower, the arched profile of Westminster Bridge is visible. In the foreground, the vertical masts of sailing vessels are silhouetted against the water. The artist has employed a heavy impasto technique with thick, textured brushwork throughout. The palette is composed of deep umbers, blacks, and charcoal greys, with vibrant orange and yellow highlights representing city lights. The work is signed and dated Summersly / 73 in stylized cursive in the lower right corner. It is mounted in a mid-to-late 20th-century composite gilt frame with a dark grey inner slip. The frame carries two paper auction labels, one marked 2 2 and an orange circular sticker marked 166.
Approximately 60cm x 90cm.
