Lot 132: Vintage SJ Japanese Atomic Rifle
This vintage toy rifle is manufactured by SJ of Japan, as evidenced by the winged trademark located on the stock. The item is constructed from lithographed tinplate and features a grey and silver colour scheme decorated with faux-mechanical graphics including dials, rivets, and vents. A red, white, and blue banner on the stock identifies the model as an ATOMIC RIFLE. The piece is fitted with a clear plastic viewing window on the side designed to house a friction-drive sparking mechanism, which is activated by the unpainted metal trigger. The rifle is finished with a red-painted muzzle tip.
Condition report:
The toy is in played-with vintage condition. Visible surface wear is present throughout, including light scratches and areas of minor surface oxidation, particularly concentrated along the seams and lower edges. The lithography remains largely bright and legible. The clear plastic window is intact but shows minor scuffing. An adhesive price label is attached to the stock. The sparking mechanism has not been tested for functionality. This lot does not include its original box or packaging.
