Lot 131: Vintage Japanese Toy Space Rifle Attributed to Tada Seisakusho
This vintage toy rifle is attributed to the Japanese manufacturer Tada Seisakusho (Tada). It is constructed from lithographed tinplate, featuring a design that combines the form of a sporting rifle with futuristic space age motifs. The buttstock and pistol grip are decorated with a brown wood-grain pattern, with the stock further featuring a lithographed 700 graphic and a small illustration of a ray gun. The central receiver housing is detailed with yellow, grey, and red mechanical graphics, including dials, vents, and switches. The barrel consists of a black-finished tube. The toy incorporates a trigger-operated mechanism, likely designed for a sparking or clicking effect.
Condition report:
The toy is in played-with condition. Visible surface scratches and minor paint loss are present throughout the lithographed areas. Small patches of oxidation and surface corrosion can be seen, notably along the seams and edges of the metalwork. A small orange adhesive label is attached to the stock. The internal mechanism is currently untested.
