Lot 119: A Set of Five James Dixon and Sons Firth Stainless Steel Knives with Cream Handles
A set of five tea or side knives featuring polished stainless steel blades with a scimitar-style profile. The blades are etched with the maker’s mark for James Dixon and Sons, Sheffield, including the corporate logo of a trumpet with a banner. The text reads FIRTH STAINLESS, JAMES DIXON and SONS, SHEFFIELD, MADE IN ENGLAND. The knives are fitted with cream-coloured handles and are presented in a rectangular black case with a hinged lid. The interior of the case is lined with cream-coloured silk and velvet.
Condition report:
The set of five is incomplete, missing one knife from the original set of six. The knives show light surface scratches to the blades and minor discoloration to the handles consistent with age and use. The presentation case exhibits significant external wear, with scuffing and losses to the black outer covering. The interior lining shows light staining but remains largely intact.
