A ship’s bell of traditional flared form, manufactured from cast brass. The waist of the bell is inscribed with S.S. CLARENCE in black-filled capital letters. Below the text is a maritime emblem featuring a fouled anchor with a circular device at the intersection of the shank and stock. The bell features turned-line decoration around the upper waist and is fitted with a cast brass suspension yoke. It is accompanied by a hand-braided maritime lanyard, worked in multi-coloured yellow, white, and brown rope with decorative knotwork, terminating in a frayed tassel.
Condition report:
The bell exhibits an aged patina with surface tarnishing, oxidation, and minor scuffs consistent with use. The black infill of the lettering remains clearly legible despite light wear. The rope lanyard shows minor fraying at the tassel but remains structurally sound.
