March timed auction
A collection of UK currency presented in a hinged wooden box, consistent with a mixed coin hoard. The lot comprises various denominations in bronze, brass, cupro-nickel, and silver. Identified pieces include a large 1953 Elizabeth II cupro-nickel coin inscribed ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D, a 1912 silver sixpence inscribed FID DEF IND IMP, and brass threepence coins dated 1942 and 1954. Also included are a 1953 Elizabeth II shilling and an Elizabeth II bronze halfpenny. The coins are loose and unorganised within the container. The 1953 issues are significant as they mark the coronation year of Queen Elizabeth II.
Condition report:
The coins are in varied circulated condition, ranging from heavily worn to extremely fine with original lustre present on some 1953 issues. Toning and surface oxidation are visible on several copper-alloy pieces. The wooden box exhibits minor surface wear and age-related scuffs.
