March timed auction
An original architectural etching on paper by the British artist Henry James Starling (1905-1996). The landscape-orientated work depicts a topographical view of a traditional stone building, featuring a prominent arched entryway and multi-paned windows, executed in the artist’s characteristic style. The print exhibits clearly defined plate marks resulting from the intaglio printing process. It is signed in pencil by the artist below the plate line at the lower right as H. J. Starling. The impression quality is good, with fine line work and detail visible across the masonry and architectural elements. The piece is housed in a dark grey mount and a simple black-finished frame.
Dimensions: Not recorded.
Condition report:
The print shows significant and widespread foxing, particularly concentrated along the left-hand margin and across the upper portions of the image. There is general toning to the paper consistent with age. The frame shows minor surface wear and scuffing.
