Lot 55: A Royal Navy Shore Establishment or Command Wall Plaque with Tudor Crown and SCON Initials

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A mid-20th century Royal Navy style wall plaque, likely representing a regional command or shore establishment. The circular plaque is constructed from cast composition or plaster with hand-painted detailing, mounted upon a circular dark wood base. The central heraldic design features a blue cross set against a textured white field. A raised Tudor Crown (King’s Crown) in a gold-effect finish surmounts the centre of the cross. The four quadrants created by the cross contain the raised red letters S, C, O, and N. The entire composition is enclosed within a raised, gold-painted rope-twist border (torsade). The letters are indicative of a specific naval authority, possibly the Senior Command Officer North or a Shipping Control Office. Two modern auction labels are adhered to the front surface.

Condition report:

The plaque is in fair condition, exhibiting significant age-related wear. There is substantial paint loss and flaking across the surface, particularly affecting the gold-painted rope border and the Tudor crown, revealing the dark substrate beneath. The white field shows surface dirt and minor abrasions. The wooden mount remains stable.
