Lot 548: Two vintage gold-toned engine-turned cases
A pair of vintage metal cases, likely intended for use as cigarette cases or powder compacts. The first case features a rectangular form decorated with an all-over fine diamond-hatched engine-turned pattern. The second case is of rectangular form with chamfered corners, decorated with a horizontal ribbed engine-turned design. Both items are constructed from a gold-toned metal, such as brass or a gold-plated base metal. Each case is fitted with a hinged lid and an integrated metal thumbpiece catch. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit signs of age-related wear and surface use. The diamond-patterned case shows minor surface abrasions and light tarnishing. The ribbed case displays more pronounced surface oxidation, patination, and wear to the gold-toned finish. Both cases appear structurally sound with functioning hinges and catches.
