Lot 544: A Collection of UK Cupro-Nickel Half Crowns, 1948-1967
A collection of UK cupro-nickel half crowns dating from 1948 to 1967, excluding the years 1953 and 1964. The group includes coinage from the reigns of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. Obverse designs feature the portraits of the monarchs with transcribed inscriptions GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX and ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F: D:. Reverse designs show crowned shields of arms with legends including HALF CROWN and FID: DEF:. The 1948 specimen bears the additional inscription IND: IMP:. The coins are struck in cupro-nickel with milled edges. The collection is housed in a small rectangular metal tin accompanied by a handwritten inventory note.
