Lot 52: A Collection of Vintage Polychrome Porcelain Half-Dolls and Figurines

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A collection of approximately 14 vintage glazed porcelain items, primarily comprising half-dolls designed for use as decorative pincushions, tea cosies, or whisk broom tops. The figures are largely female subjects in 18th-century or Crinoline Lady style attire, featuring moulded details such as wide-brimmed hats, elaborate hairstyles, and floral corsages. One larger figure is mounted on a voluminous, pleated gold-toned fabric skirt, likely functioning as a decorative tea cosy or a large pincushion. Another small figure is partially wrapped in a dark, worn textile. The collection also includes several small full-bodied figurines in similar period-style dress. Several pieces bear the mark FOREIGN, which in the context of the United Kingdom market, was commonly used on imported ceramics, particularly from Germany and Japan, during the early to mid-20th century to satisfy import regulations.

Condition report:

The items are in generally fair condition. The textile component of one small figure shows significant fraying and age-related wear. The large fabric skirt shows some surface marking and light wear. Minor surface abrasions and small chips are present on the porcelain figures, consistent with being stored loose in a mixed lot. Prospective bidders are advised to inspect for fine cracks or small losses to delicate areas such as fingers and hat brims.
