Lot 502: A Pair of Reconstituted Stone Pineapple Garden Finials
A pair of reconstituted stone garden pier finials, modelled in the traditional form of pineapples, a classical symbol of hospitality. Each finial features a textured body with a diamond-moulded pattern, topped with a foliate crown. The fruit is set within a basal cup of stylised acanthus leaves, all supported by an integral square flared plinth. The construction is of cast composite stone, designed in a style resembling the Williamsburg Grand Pinecone pattern. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The items are in a heavily weathered condition consistent with long-term outdoor exposure. There is a significant accumulation of moss and lichen, particularly concentrated around the bases and leaf mouldings. The surface exhibits natural pitting and minor erosion to the sharp edges of the casting. No structural cracks or significant losses were observed during inspection.
