An 18th-century English oak gateleg dining table of traditional form. The solid oak top comprises a fixed central section and two hinged semi-oval drop leaves. The base consists of a frame with turned legs joined by rectangular stretchers, including two gatelegs that swing out to support the leaves. The piece is constructed from solid oak throughout and demonstrates traditional joinery techniques consistent with the period.
Condition report:
The table exhibits significant signs of age and domestic use. There are numerous surface scratches, scuffs, and indentations across the top and leaves. A visible rectangular patch repair is located on the edge of one leaf, and there are small losses to the wood along the edges. The finish shows wear in multiple areas.
