A large decorative architectural fragment or pediment designed in the Louis XV style, likely crafted from carved wood or composition. The piece features high-relief ornamentation including scrolling acanthus leaves, C-scrolls, and a central foliate crest. The lower portion is decorated with horizontal fluting and a gadrooned edge. The entire surface is finished in a heavily distressed and crackled white paint. An orange adhesive label with the characters 4, 5, 5 and a white paper label with the characters 1, 7, 1, 7 are affixed to the front, appearing to serve as inventory or auction identifiers.
Condition report:
The fragment is in a weathered and aged condition. There is significant flaking, chipping, and loss to the white painted finish across the entire surface. Extensive surface cracking is visible throughout, consistent with the distressed aesthetic and age.
