A mid-20th-century sewing or vanity box of square profile, upholstered in a floral-patterned jacquard fabric. The fabric design features roses and foliage in muted tones of green, dusty pink, and cream. The edges of the lid and base are finished with a decorative bi-colour braided cord trim. The box is fitted with a fabric-covered loop latch to the front and is supported by four small bun feet. The interior is lined with a pale blue fabric; the underside of the lid contains four elasticated retaining loops for securing sewing implements. The lid is secured by two brass-toned metal hinges and supported by twin metal stay chains. An orange adhesive label with handwritten characters 450 is present on the exterior, and two white adhesive labels with printed characters 9 9 are located on the interior. No manufacturer marks are present.
Condition report:
The item is in fair to good condition. The exterior upholstery shows minor surface dust and light wear consistent with age, with some minor fraying and loose threads to the braided trim. The interior lining exhibits significant foxing and moisture spotting, particularly to the underside of the lid. The hinges and stay chains are in functional condition.
