Lot 396: A Set of Salter Cast Iron Mechanical Balance Scales with Graduated Weights
A set of mechanical Roberval-type balance scales manufactured by Salter. The frame and platforms are constructed of cast iron with a pale green painted finish. The design features a circular concave metal pan on the left-hand side and a flat octagonal platform on the right-hand side. The central bridge of the cast iron frame displays raised lettering reading SALTER. The lot includes a collection of graduated circular iron weights.
Condition report:
The item shows significant age-related wear. There is extensive chipping and loss to the painted finish on the frame and platform. Surface oxidation and rust are visible on the weights, the concave pan, and exposed areas of the cast iron. Mechanical function and accuracy have not been tested.
