Lot 344: Cateaux (20th Century), Rustic Farmstead Study, 1978
A pen, ink, and watercolour drawing on paper by an artist signed Cateaux. The work depicts a rustic architectural study of a cluster of buildings, possibly a farmstead, featuring a prominent tall conifer and bare foreground branches. The composition is executed in an illustrative style, using fine pen-and-ink lines to define the forms over a muted wash of greens, browns, and ochres. The signature CATEAUX and the date 78 are inscribed vertically towards the right-hand side of the central structure. The work is presented in a dark olive-green mount with a white core, within a modern gilt and wood-effect frame. No labels are visible on the reverse.
Condition report:
The paper displays light toning and some minor scattered foxing, particularly visible in the sky portion. The mount and frame appear to be in good overall condition with only minor surface marks.
