Lot 323: A Mainline Railways OO Gauge LMS Steam Passenger Train Set
A collection of OO gauge electric model railway components manufactured by Mainline Railways, a brand produced by Palitoy. The set features a 4-6-2 steam locomotive in London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) maroon livery, identified as the Princess Royal Class Princess Elizabeth, bearing the running number 6201 on the cab. The locomotive is accompanied by a matching LMS tender and passenger coaches in the same maroon livery, with one coach numbered 5714. The items are constructed from a combination of moulded plastic and die-cast metal components. The collection includes several sections of straight and curved track, along with a circular turntable component. The set is housed in an original Mainline Railways cardboard box with a polystyrene inner tray; however, the box lid is printed for a British Railways Diesel Freight Electric Train Set, indicating the packaging is mismatched to the current steam-era contents. The locomotive is designed for use with a 12V DC power controller.
Condition report:
The items are in used condition. The locomotive and coaches show light surface dust but appear largely intact with no significant missing parts observed. The track sections show signs of use and oxidation consistent with age. The turntable component appears used. The original cardboard box shows significant wear, including tears, creases, and remnants of old adhesive tape. The internal polystyrene tray is worn with some sections broken away. The mechanical and electrical functionality of the locomotive and track has not been tested.
