A large, decorative cylindrical birdcage of multi-tiered construction, designed in the Victorian-revival style. The cage features a domed top surmounted by a finial and contains two smaller concentric caged structures within the main body. The construction consists of curved and interlaced metal wirework supported by three wide bands of ornate, pierced metal fretwork featuring foliate and scroll motifs. The item is constructed from metal wire and stamped sheet metal, likely iron or steel. It is finished with an intentionally distressed polychrome surface in shades of gold, copper-bronze, and dark brown to simulate an aged patina. The wirework is manually assembled and secured to the stamped decorative bands. A small orange adhesive sticker with the handwritten digits 234 is present on the lower outer rim. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible.
Condition report:
The item is in good decorative condition. The weathered appearance, including varied colour tones and simulated wear to the finish, is consistent with the intended design. No significant structural damage or missing wirework is noted.
