Lot 225: Aranello (20th Century), Harbour Scene with Fishing Vessels, Oil on Canvas, 1974
An oil on stretched canvas by the artist Aranello, dated 1974. The work depicts a coastal harbour scene featuring several moored fishing vessels with tall masts positioned before a row of white-walled buildings. The composition is executed in an impressionistic style, utilising a palette of muted blues, greys, and ochres. The artist has employed bold, textural brushwork with visible areas of impasto to define the forms of the boats and the reflections in the water. The painting is signed and dated Aranello / 74 in the lower right corner. It is housed in a substantial gilt-wood and composition frame featuring ornate scrolling foliate decoration to the outer edge and a beaded inner border.
