Lot 184: An Early 20th Century Postcard Album of West Yorkshire Topographical Interest

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A vintage postcard album featuring a red textured cloth binding. The front cover is decorated with a central gilt and polychrome circular emblem depicting a globe surrounded by four vignettes of global landmarks: the Great Sphinx and Pyramids of Giza, the Statue of Liberty, an Islamic-style mosque, and an East Asian-style gate. The interior consists of grey paper leaves with die-cut corner slits for mounting. The album contains a collection of early 20th-century postcards primarily focused on the West Yorkshire region, specifically Leeds and Ilkley. Visible contents include a monochrome sepia view of White Wells and Moors, Ilkley; a hand-tinted card of a Band Performance at Woodhouse Moor, Leeds, bearing the publisher mark W. and T. Gaines, Leeds 1157; a coloured view of Leeds University with a partial red postmark; and a coloured view of the Black Prince Statue, City Square, Leeds. The postcards include both postmarked and unused examples.

Condition report:

The cloth binding shows light wear and minor soiling consistent with age. Two modern auction stickers are adhered to the front cover. Internal pages and postcards appear in generally good condition with some expected age-related toning.
