A mid-20th century steamer-style storage trunk of rectangular form. The wooden frame is covered in a textured, deep blue vulcanised fibre material. The body is reinforced with black-painted metal bands secured by numerous rivets and features metal-reinforced corner protectors for added durability. The trunk is fitted with brass-toned hardware, including a central lock plate, two outer toggle hasps, and two decorative diamond-shaped brass plates. A single leather carrying handle is mounted to the front with brass-toned brackets. The top surface of the lid bears faint remains of large, stencilled characters, including a visible letter E.
Condition report:
The item shows signs of age and significant use consistent with its purpose. There are various scuffs, scratches, and small areas of loss to the blue exterior covering. The black metal banding shows surface wear and minor oxidation. The brass-toned hardware exhibits tarnishing, pitting, and surface rust, particularly on the latches. The leather handle is heavily worn and aged. The key is absent. The interior has not been inspected.
