Lot 113: A Trio of Large Twin-Handled Glass Demijohns

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A trio of large glass demijohns, likely dating from the 19th to early 20th century. Each vessel is hand-blown into a mould to achieve a globular form, featuring a short neck with a thick, applied rim and two small, applied ear-shaped handles at the shoulder. The glass is clear with a natural greenish-grey tint characteristic of soda-lime glass from this period. One bottle displays remnants of gold-coloured lettering or a label on the side. These vessels are similar in style to those used by commercial producers for the bulk storage and transport of liquids such as cider, spirits, or vinegar.

Condition report:

The items are in good used condition. There is visible internal cloudiness and residue in all three bottles, along with surface scratching consistent with age and utilitarian use. One bottle retains a weathered cork stopper. No major cracks or significant chips are apparent from the exterior view. The gold-coloured lettering on one vessel is significantly worn and largely illegible.
