Lot 216: Vintage Compound Monocular Microscope with Integrated Illumination
A vintage compound monocular microscope featuring a cast metal body with a grey hammertone textured finish. The instrument is equipped with a triple revolving nosepiece housing three objective lenses and a single eyepiece. The rectangular black stage is fitted with two specimen clips for slide retention. It features both coarse and fine focus adjustment via side-mounted knobs and includes a substage condenser unit with an iris diaphragm. This instrument includes an integrated electrical illumination source with a power cable terminating in a standard United Kingdom three-pin plug. Two adhesive labels are present on the base: an orange label with the handwritten number 216 and a small white label with the printed number 5. While no manufacturer’s mark is clearly visible, the design and construction are consistent with the style of mid-20th century models produced by American Optical Spencer.
Condition report:
The microscope shows signs of use and age, including a layer of surface dust and minor surface marks to the textured finish. The mechanical movements and optical clarity have not been tested. The electrical system has not been safety tested or verified as working.
