Lot 464: A Set of Italian Rococo Revival Style Marquetry Inlaid Dining Furniture
An Italian Rococo Revival style marquetry dining suite, likely dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. The collection comprises a dining table and matching chairs, including carver armchairs. The tabletop is finished with figured veneers and features elaborate floral and foliate marquetry inlay in various contrasting fruitwoods, set within a scalloped serpentine edge. The table is supported by a central carved pedestal base. The chairs feature carved wooden frames with scrollwork detailing and are upholstered in a button-tufted champagne-coloured fabric. They are raised on cabriole front legs and splayed rear legs. This style is a popular mid-century Italian export frequently referred to as Sorrento marquetry furniture. No maker marks are visible.
Condition report:
The suite is in good overall condition. The tabletop shows visible surface scratches and light wear consistent with age and domestic use, particularly noticeable under direct light. The upholstery appears intact but shows minor signs of use. Small adhesive labels are present on the tabletop and one chair.
