JUNE AUCTION

Lot 279: A Collection of Antique and Vintage Cast Iron and Steel Rim Locks

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises a collection of surface-mounted rim locks, also known as box locks, typical of late 19th and early 20th-century British domestic hardware. The lock bodies are primarily manufactured from cast iron and pressed steel, featuring integrated brass spindle collars. The designs are consistent with the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Circular stamped manufacturer marks are present on several lock bodies around the spindle bushings, however, heavy oxidation and surface accumulation render the specific inscriptions illegible. The collection includes various models, with one example retaining a thick coating of old beige paint. No keys, strike plates, or door handles are present.

Condition report:

All items are in a distressed, reclamation condition with significant surface corrosion and rust throughout. The internal mechanisms may be seized. One unit is heavily encrusted with layers of old paint. The lot is offered as found, suitable for restoration projects or as a source of spare parts.
