Lot 56: An Assortment of Duchess and Marlborough Fine Bone China Tea and Tableware
An assortment of English fine bone china comprising two distinct patterns from established Staffordshire potteries. The first group, marked for Duchess Bone China, features a floral pattern of pink rose sprays with yellow and blue blossoms and green foliage. This collection includes a twin-handled oval sandwich plate, a cream jug, teacups, and saucers, all with scalloped edges and hand-applied gilded rims. The second group, marked for Marlborough, is decorated with a classical scroll border in sepia and golden brown tones with small yellow flower heads, including teacups and saucers with gilded rims. A small circular pin dish with a transfer-printed landscape scene of a manor house and lake is also present. The pieces bear maker’s marks to the underside including the Duchess crown device and the Marlborough script mark.
Condition report:
All items appear to be in good condition. The glaze is bright and the transfer-printed patterns are clear. No chips, cracks, or significant damage were observed. There is light, expected wear to the gilding on the rims of some pieces.
