Lot 726: Victorian Mahogany Swing-Frame Toilet Mirror
A late Victorian mahogany swing-frame toilet mirror, also known as a dressing mirror. The arched mirror plate is held within a mahogany frame and suspended between two turned upright supports, each capped with a pointed finial. The uprights are braced by a matching turned cross-stretcher for added stability. The entire structure is supported by four splayed and shaped feet. The mirror is adjustable via brass thumb-screw mechanisms located at the pivot points. The wood retains a warm patina characteristic of the period. There are no visible maker’s marks or historic labels on the piece.
Condition report:
The mirror is in good overall condition, showing wear consistent with age and domestic use. The mahogany frame has some minor surface scratches and indentations. The mirror plate is well-preserved with no significant foxing or silvering loss visible. The swing mechanism remains functional.
