Lot 462: A Pair of Rococo Revival Style Gilt Composition Wall Brackets
A pair of large wall brackets or corbels executed in the Rococo Revival style. Each bracket features a heavily scrolling form, embellished with high-relief cast floral sprays, acanthus leaves, and prominent C-scroll motifs. The top of each bracket is surmounted by a fluted semi-circular support platform. The items are finished in an aged gold-tone gilding over a composition material, such as a moulded resin or plaster mixture. No maker’s marks are visible. The brackets bear several modern inventory stickers, including white labels marked 22 and orange labels marked 462 and 469.
Condition report:
General surface wear consistent with age and use. There is noticeable rubbing to the gilded finish on the prominent edges and high points of the moulding, revealing a darker undercoat. Dust and grime have accumulated within the deep recesses of the floral and foliate decoration. No significant structural damage or major losses are visible.
