A lot containing two items of antique metalware. The first is a copper handheld vapouriser or incense burner, featuring a bell-shaped hammered and spun copper head with pierced circular and oblong ventilation holes. The head is joined to a dark-stained turned wooden handle with a brass ferrule. An incised mark reading Vapo is visible on the side of the copper dome. The second item is a Victorian style brass wall-mounted spill holder or match pocket. The design includes an ornate backplate with scrolled wing-shaped supports and a hanging loop, while the rectangular pocket is decorated with a rope-twist border. A separate small, pierced copper conical object is located inside the pocket.
Condition report:
The copper vessel displays minor surface indentations and light scratches consistent with age and domestic use. The wooden handle is structurally sound and retains a rich patina with minor scuffing. The brass spill holder shows typical surface tarnishing and oxidation, particularly in the recessed areas. Remnants of adhesive labels are present on the brass surface.
