A decorative hanging sanctuary or vigil lamp featuring a deep ruby red glass vessel of ovoid form with a flared rim. The glass body is held within an ornate cast brass-toned metal frame decorated with three scroll-work arms featuring foliate and acanthus leaf motifs. The lamp is suspended by three decorative linked chains which meet at a circular cast metal ceiling rose and hanging loop. The glass exhibits a vibrant ruby red colour popular in late Victorian and Edwardian decorative arts. Two modern inventory stickers are adhered to the glass: an orange rectangular label with the handwritten digits 226 and a smaller white rectangular label with the printed digits 17. No manufacturer’s marks, signatures, or etched glass marks are visible on the metalwork or glass body.
